New Effects for 2006 Under Existing Laws

Federal Estate Tax

The threshold for the tax is now $2,000,000.
The maximum tax rate is now 46%

Federal Gift Tax

The Annual Exclusion has been raised to $12,000 - this means you can make gifts of up to $12,000 per person per calender year and the gifts will not be subject to Federal Gift Tax. The limit had been $11,000.
